Suspected herdsmen have killed no fewer than 11 persons in Guma local government area of Benue state. Chairman of Guma local government, Mr Anthony Shawon, told newsmen that five persons were killed in Torkula, the village of the late Tor Tiv, Alfred Akawe Torkula, last Thursday while five were killed last Friday by the same herdsmen that numbered over 30.
Shawon also said the herdsmen killed another farmer today being Saturday bringing the total number of persons killed in three days to 11.
He explained that the herdsmen allegedly crossed over from Nasarawa state and added that the deceased persons have been buried.
Speaking on the incident, the police public relations officer, PPRO, DSP Serwuese Anene, said because of bad network, the DPO could not confirm the number of casualties but said that there was an attack.
Monday this week, suspected herdsmen killed the same number of persons in Obi local government area.
While calm has been restored in Obi, the attacks on Guma appears to have caused a lot of confusion, panic, fear and mass movement of the people who were displaced when about 70 persons were killed in January 2018 in Guma and Logo local government areas where Governor Ortom and the immediate past governor, Gabriel Suswam, respectively hail from.
In 2014, herdsmen overran Torkula village. Today, the paramount ruler is no more.
