Dessers: I Will Fit In Easily In The Super Eagles

Heracles striker Cyriel Dessers has expressed confidence that fitting into the Super Eagles team would not be a problem for him as it is made of young players, Completesports.com reports.

Dessers got his first Eagles call up ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone in March.

Unfortunately, Dessers missed the chance to make his debut with the Eagles following the postponement of the qualifiers no thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.

And Dessers who shared the top scorer award in the Dutch Eredivisie after netting 15 goals, said he is looking forward to partnering Victor Osimhen in the Eagles’ attack.

 “It’s a young team, a lot of players are playing in Europe, so I think the adjustment will be easy and I hope they accept me on the team,” Dessers told BBC.

“I look forward to seeing Victor Osimhen. I watch football and strikers a lot, and I think he’s great. I hope I can help and support him.”

However, Dessers admits it was painful he was denied the chance to make his debut for Nigeria due to the coronavirus.

“It hurts because I thought this was going to be one of the best moments of my life, or of my career. Not seeing that go on was really painful. ”

The 25-year-old confessed he loved Eagles legend Austin Okocha and always copy his style of play.

“When I was 12 years old, every player had to learn one movement during technique training. Some chose the scissors movement or the ‘Ronaldinho’, but my movement was always the ‘Okocha movement’. I loved him as a child. ”

On the Eagles winning the 2013 AFCON in South Africa, Dessers described it as a special period in his life.

He added: “It was special because I was studying at the time. I was not even a professional footballer. I remember being so happy, with Mikel as captain, Emenike with the goals … ”

And on the league season being cancelled, the former NAC Breda and FC Utrecht player said he would have scored more goals.

“I think I could have scored some more, but health is more important than football. I agree with the decision. ”

And on getting back to the football pitch after clubs in the Netherlands were allowed to train again in small groups: “I miss football, the feeling of a match and a match day. But I’m also happy to be able to hit a ball again. It is only training, but it is better than nothing.”
