Tevez: I kissed Maradona To Tap Boca’s League Title-Winning Luck

Boca Juniors captain and striker, Carlos Tevez, has sensationally claimed that he deliberately kissed Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata coach Diego Maradona to tap a winning-luck in Saturday’s decisive Argentine Primera Division match at the Alberto Jose Armando Stadium in Buenos Aires.

Tevez made the revelation after his 72nd minute 20-yard shot beat Gimnasia goalkeeper, Jorge Broun, and helped Boca Juniors to beat the Maradona’s team 1-0 for their 34th Primera Division tittle.

Tevez moves in for the smooch on Maradona

Many thought it was just an exchange of pleasantries between two Argentine football icons when Tevez walked over to Gimnasia dugout just before kickoff and kissed Maradona on the lips. Both men also shook hands warmly.

With the crucial win on the last day of the 2019/2020 season, Boca finished top of the 24-team Argentine Primera Division on 48 points, while their toughest rival River Plate finished second on 47 points after drawing 1-1 at Atletico Tucuman also on Saturday.

Tevez claimed his smooch on Maradona made the difference. He also hailed the inspiring presence of Boca Juniours’ second vice-president Juan Roman Riquelme.

“Roman is very important, it was very clear from the first talk. He also helped me a lot to find that Carlitos, this is the reward, Tevez
told Argentine national daily sports newspaper, Ole.

“Roman in the box, me scoring a goal.

“I knew I had to kiss Diego, I was lucky that way… Sometimes you have to look for luck.”

Tevez, 39, added: “I was hungry for glory again. I think l felt again that I had to go back to my neighbourhood, that I had to get off a lot of things and fight like the kid who fought when I was a kid,” he said.

“It was two or three years of fighting against my head, against a lot of things. I always kept working, trying to get out of that well, it was very difficult for me to get out, to get back to my roots.

“It was as I was telling you, I needed to go back to be hungry for glory. I found myself at the right time”
