Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen had an assist for Lille but could not prevent them from being knocked out in the semi-final of the French League Cup by Lyon on Tuesday, Completesports.com reports.

Portuguese midfielder Renato Sanches opened scoring for Lille in the 13th minute after he was set up by Osimhen.

But just four minutes after Sanches’ opener, Moussa Dembele equalised for Lyon from the penalty spot.

With five minutes left in the second half Lyon went 2-1 up thanks to Houssem Aouar but Lille were awarded a penalty in the 93rd minute which was converted by Loic Remy.

During the shootout, Osimhen converted his own spot kick but misses from Jonathan Bamba and Sanches, cost Lille a place in the final.

The second semi-final comes up on Wednesday between Reims and Paris Saint-Germain.
