Nigeria is set to lose the services of Samuel Omorodion to Spain with the striker in line for his first-ever senior call-up for the UEFA Nations League fixtures in November.
Spain’s lack of a prolific striker is well-known, although there is hope that this problem will soon be addressed.
Alvaro Morata’s first as first-choice centre forward will be over in the coming years, and his natural successor is Omorodion, who has been in spectacular form so far this season.
Since leaving Atletico Madrid for Porto, Samu has bagged 11 goals – four of which came during Spain U21s’ victory over Malta earlier this week.
He narrowly missed out on being included in La Roja’s squad for this month’s international break, although he is on course for a first-ever senior call-up in November, as per MD.
Spain face Denmark and Switzerland in their final two UEFA Nations League fixtures, knowing that two draws would be enough for progression.
This lack of pressure could allow Luis de la Fuente to use other options, and Samu would surely be a very attractive one for him to utilise next month.
Omorodion was a member of the Spain squad that won football gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
