Former Chelsea defender, William Gallas says it will be difficult for Man United defender, Harry Maguire to retain his spot in the defence at Old Trafford despite his impressive display at the 2022 World Cup.
According to him, the club is “too big” for the Red Devils’ captain, explaining that this is the reason the former Leicester City man has not been performing well at the Theatre of Dreams.
Maguire has lost his position in the Red Devils starting eleven, with manager Erik ten Hag preferring new-signing Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane over the England defender.
Meanwhile, Maguire has only made four appearances in the Premier League this season.
Gallas, who played for both Arsenal and Chelsea during his active days, insisted that Maguire does not have the speed and agility required by defenders.
The Frenchman stated this while responding to the rumours linking the England centre-back to a potential move to Tottenham.
“Manchester United is too big for Maguire,” he told Genting Casino.
“That is why he has not performed there. I’m not sure if Tottenham will want him at the back.
“They need defenders but Maguire would not be good for them. He is almost 30 years old and he does not have as much speed as others. The older he gets, the less speed he will have.”
