Flamingos forward Alvine Dah-Zossu says she and her teammates were not given a chance against the United States of America in Friday’s quarter-final at the U-17 women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos secured a first-ever semi-final ticket at the U-17 World Cup, after edging USA 4-3 on penalties after playing 1-1 in regulation time.

Omamuzo Edafe had given the Flamingos the lead in the 26th minute after converting a penalty, before Amalica Villarreal equalized for USA with five minutes left to play in the first half.

After both teams failed to get the winning goal the game was decided from the penalty spot with Edafe bagging the decisive kick.

And reacting to the hard fought victory, Dah-Zossu stated that the Flamingos will continue to fight on until their objective is achieved.

“I lack words to express how excited I’m. Some people wrote us off before the match but we refused to be discouraged and gave our all on the pitch,” Dah-Zossu wrote on Twitter.

“I’m super proud of my teammates, Coaches and backroom staff for the commitment, we did it when many didn’t believe in us.

“Thank you everyone for your support, we can only celebrate and get back to work on Sunday.

“The higher we climb, the tougher it becomes but we are ready to fight on till we achieve our goal,” Dah-Zossu concluded.

Up next for the Flamingos is a semi-final clash against fellow Africans Tanzania or Columbia which comes up on next week Wednesday.
