NPFL Matchday-9: Akwa United Extend Unbeaten Run, FC Ifeanyi Ubah Maintain Top Spot In Group B

Akwa United extended their unbeaten run to four games following a 1-1 away draw against Abia Warriors in their NPFL matchday-nine encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Thursday, reports Completesports.com.

Chinedu Ozor opened scoring for Abia Warriors two minutes before the half hour mark, while Mfon Udoh equalised for the visitors in the 33rd minute.

Udoh has now scored five goals for the Promise Keepers this season and is the leading scorer in the NPFL this season.

The result however didn’t affect the Uyo club’s position in the NPFL table as they still maintain fourth position in the log with 12 points from eight games.

In Nnewi, FC IfeanyiUbah extended their lead at the top of NPFL Group B table to three points following a hard-fought 1-0 win against second placed El-Kanemi Warriors.

Emmanuel Ugwuka netted the winning goal in the 35th minute.

The Anambra Warriors who have lost only once this season have garnered 18 points from nine games.

In Akure, hosts Sunshine Stars rallied from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Bendel Insurance.

Junior Osaghae put the visitors ahead in the 64th minute but Anthony Omaka equalised for Sunshine Stars 15 minutes from time.

Heartland missed the chance to close the gap on FC IfeanyiUbah after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Gombe United.

Chidiebere Ajoku 32 minutes strike looked to be enough for the Naze Millionaires to take maximum points in the game but Chigozie Maurice pegged the hosts back with a penalty on the dot of 90 minutes.

In another NPFL matchday-9, Mathias Ogwuche scored twice as Remo Stars pipped Kwara United 2-1 at Gateway International Stadium, Shagamu.

Daberachi Anyanwu got Kwara United goal in the 45th minute.

Go-Round and Nasarawa United battled to a 1-1 draw at the Krisdera Stadium, Omoku.

Ikechukwu Nwani silenced the home fans when he scored the curtain raiser on 26 minutes. with Adeseun Adelani grabbing the equaliser for the home team three minutes before the break.
