Former Manchester United midfielder created a record after netting a hat-trick in Shandong Luneng’s 3-2 win at Dalian Professional FC, in his first Chinese Super League (CSL) match since recovering from coronavirus.
Fellaini is now the first Belgian player to score a hat-trick in the Chinese topflight.
He scored three times in seven minutes in the second half to secure the win for Shandong Luneng over Rafael Benitez’s Dalian Professional.
The former Everton star scored in the 79th, 83rd and 86th minutes to put his side 3-1 ahead.
The 32-year-old was treated in hospital for the virus and was discharged on April 14.
The CSL season began on Saturday five months after it was initially due to start, with the competition having been put on hold due to Covid-19.
Fellaini joined Shandong for a reported €12million in January last year after spending five and a half years with United.
