Nigerian sports will soon resume activities after they were paused for over three months following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country and around the world, Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has informed, Completesports.com reports.

Speaking on a radio show – Voice of Nigeria’s Issues in the News, Dare informed that plans have reached an advanced stage to have Nigerian sports back on stream with noncombat sports like table tennis, lawn tennis, track and Field billed to be used as the precursors.

“We hope that our athletes can get back to action soon with noncombat sports. Although no date has been set, but we must submit to the Covid-19 protocols in line with the practice all over the world. We have submitted our protocol and hopefully, our athletes would soon be back to compete,” Dare told Voice of Nigeria.

Sports events like the 20th National Sports Festival (Edo 2020), the 2019/2020 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), national teams’ qualifying competitions/matches for international tournaments, among other sporting activities were suspended in the country as the covid-19 pandemic started ravaging the world.

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has decided to emulate authorities in some countries who have since given greenlight for sports events and competitions to resume under the participants’ strict adherence to precautionary measures against the spread of covid-19.
