Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta remains optimistic that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sign a new contract at the club.
The Gunners skipper has been hotly tipped with a move away from the Emirates as he enters the final 12 months of his contract, but Arteta feels that there still is a long-term future for the Gabon international at the club.
Aubameyang became the quickest Arsenal player to score 50 English Premier League goals after netting a brace in the club’s 4-0 win over Norwich City on Wednesday evening.

Talking to the media after the match, Arteta explained why he remains optimistic that Aubameyang will remain in North London.
“It is the way that I feel, the way that I communicate with him, the conversations I have with him and the people around him,” Arteta said as quoted by The Guardian.
“It is the energy I sense. It is just my opinion, things change in football very quickly, but when you ask me in that moment how I feel about Auba’s future, in this moment I feel that he wants to continue with us and keep developing and help us to become a better team.”
In total, the 31-year-old has scored 63 goals in 101 appearances for the Gunners.
