March was a really great month in terms of albums and EPs released. Some of our favourite projects of 2019 arrived in March, particularly, Dave’s Psychodrama and Little Simz’s GREY Area — two projects that have just been shortlisted for the 2019 Mercury Prize.

Considered the music equivalent of the Booker Prize for literature or the Turner Prize for art, the Mercury Prize is one of the most prestigious music prizes in the UK, awarded each year to the ‘Album of the Year’, released in the UK by a British or Irish artist.

Open to all genres, the Mercury Prize received well over 200 albums — between the eligibility period of July 21, 2018, and July 19, 2019 —  and Dave’s Psychodrama and Little Simz’s GREY Area were shortlisted as one of the 12 albums.

All shortlisted artists will receive an ‘Album of the Year’ trophy, but, of course, the winner will receive an additional ‘Winner’ trophy, as well as a £25,000 cash prize and the honour of being named the winner of such a notable music award.

Psychodrama is Dave’s debut album, and it was both critically acclaimed and commercially successful — going straight to number one in the UK charts and attaining a Gold Certification only three month’s after its release.

Little Simz’s GREY Area is an equally outstanding album, so our bets on these two British-Nigerian acts are pretty sure. Granted, they do have some stiff competition from the likes of The 1975, NAO and slowthai.

The winner will be announced on September 29.
