Nigerians took to social media to react to the news of ex-presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, being shot by police in Abuja.

NEWS DIRECT earlier reported that founder of SaharaReporters, Sowore, was shot by a female police officer in Unity Fountain, Abuja.

Sowore has been reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.

Below are some reactions from Nigerians:

@adeyanjudeji wrote: “Got out of a meeting to join the protest at Unity Fountain, only for Femi Falana to call me asking if I was at Unity Fountain that Sowore has been shot by the police. This is Buhari’s Nigeria where protesters are treated like criminals. This is why many no longer believe in PEACE”

@delefarotimi wrote: “If you ever doubted the vile impunity of the Nigerian state and its slave plantation police force, fasten your seatbelt, a female officer just shot Sowore whilst he was peacefully protesting being locked out of Unity Fountain”

@mr_ochonogor wrote: “Omoooo, Nobody asked Sowore to Protest on behalf of Nigerians. He should go home and rest. You cannot support Buhari blindly in 2015 only to come out to bite the hands that once fed you. He should get out.”

@Opeyemifolarin1 wrote: “Clearly, The police officer was sent to kill Sowore. He must be arrested immediately without any delay. Any attempt to cover-up this assassination attempt will heat up the polity.”

@Greencyles wrote: “When APC came out to demonstrate in 2014 they didn’t get shot. That should give you an inclination of what Nigerians have to go through. #endsars”
