There are 26 sports being featured at the ongoing 2019 African Games, and while most people are expectedly focusing on Nigeria‘s performance in the athletics events, the country is basically dominating both men’s and women’s football at the same competition.
The Nigeria men’s national under-20 football team, the Flying Eagles, and their women’s counterparts, the Falconets, arrived in Morocco ready to face-off with some of the best youth teams from across Africa, and they have proven to be more than up to the task.
The Flying Eagles finished second in the group stage and proceeded to beat South Africa, drawing against Burkina Faso and Morocco. Now, the team is in the knockout stage, warming up for a semi-final showdown against Mali today, which we think they’ll most likely win.
The most inspiring of the two, the Falconets, displayed resilience right from the start, finishing tops in Group B. They also went through the knockout stage, beating Algeria 3-0 to make it to the finals. Now, they will be looking to win the tournament for the third time as they face Cameroon.
