Nigeria is a force to be reckoned with in Paralympic powerlifting, thanks to Bose Omolayo, who has consistently impressed for years now. Well, her great performances have earned her a spot on the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) July ‘Athlete of the Month‘ shortlist.
Omolayo made the shortlist alongside four other athletes, all of whom also had remarkable outings last month. According to IPC, she was being considered for the award because of two feats she recently accomplished.
First, the 30-year-old won her first world title at the World Championships held in Kazakhstan in July. Second, she beat China’s Xu Lili, who was considered the strongest athlete, by successfully pushing a 142kg lift – smashing the world record in the process.
