Yesterday, Nigeria qualified for the 2019 AFCON semi-finals after beating South Africa 2-1. Samuel Chukwueze scored Nigeria’s first goal, and at 20 years, he has now become the youngest player to score in this edition of the tournament.
Riding on the waves of his stellar performance in the round of 16, it was clear the Umuahia-born player had nothing but goals on his mind in the quarterfinals. Throughout the match, he was a wonder to watch, as he constantly pushed the game with solid attacks.
It goes without saying that the goal, which is his first on the senior team, is a big plus for his first international outing with the Super Eagles. The goal also shows that Chukwueze has the ability to bring his A-game, whether he starts the match or comes on later as a substitute.
He was deservedly named ‘Man of the Match’, and, with our faith in the Super Eagles increasing with every passing game, we look forward to seeing the promising player help Nigeria reach the finals and, maybe, even win the entire thing.
