Yesterday, when CAF unveiled the best 11 for the 2019 AFCON group stage, we were shocked to see that no Nigerian made the cut. Well, now it’s clear the Super Eagles didn’t entirely miss out on an accolade for the group stage, as Kenneth Omeruo has been rated the top player in Group B.
The rating was carried out by football stats site, WhoScored, based on the overall performances of 340 players who made two or more appearance in the group stage. With an average of 8.09, Omeruo emerged the second-best player in the rankings, just behind Senegal’s Ismaila Sarr (8.55).
Since Senegal was in Group C, Omeruo automatically becomes the top player in Group B. This isn’t surprising because, not only did the 25-year-old play in Nigeria‘s first two games, but he also pulled off the classy header that gave the Super Eagles their victory against Guinea.
This is hoping more Super Eagles players impress as the round of 16 starts tomorrow.
