The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage is a wrap, and fans of the Super Eagles are rightfully unimpressed with the team’s performance so far. Despite the weak start, Nigeria managed to make it into the round of 16, leaving us wondering if they will make it beyond this stage.

This gives us serious concerns, considering that the team will be facing Cameroon in three days to decide who goes on to the quarterfinals. Yes, it’s true that top teams have been struggling since the competition started, but let’s not forget that Cameroon are the defending champions.
The Super Eagles, on the other hand, struggled to bag 1-0 in their first two games, and they then ended up losing 2-0 to Madagascar in their last group game. The loss was a disgrace, to say the least, and we might end up seeing Cameroon kick Nigeria out of the tournament.
While it’s starting to look like the trophy isn’t for the Super Eagles, it could also go the other way. If the team uses the loss as motivation, they could end up surprising us. To ensure that, some fans believe that the coach, Gernot Rohr, should make some changes to the team.
Well, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
