With Europe’s big five leagues taking most of the attention, it’s easy to forget that there are Nigerians making waves in other leagues in the continent. Yesterday, Victor Osimhen drew our attention to Belgium after scoring the fastest goal ever in the history of the Belgian First Division A.

His club, Charleroi, took on Antwerp in the Europa League playoff, and just eight minutes and 15 seconds into the game, Osimhen scored. Although his club didn’t qualify for the Europa League, the 20-year-old’s name has been on the lips of fans because of the exciting goal.

Interestingly enough, the record that Osimhen broke was formerly held by another Nigerian, Imoh Ezekiel, who scored in 10 minutes and 80 seconds back in 2013. So, we feel really tempted to call this is a “Nigeria to the world” record.

In addition to making him the top-scorer in the just-concluded Europa League playoffs in Belgium, the goal also made Osimhen the highest-scoring Nigerian in Europe this season. We can’t wait to see him play for Nigeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
