It would be almost impossible to mention Yaya Touré without Manchester City coming to mind, therefore, when he left the club a year ago after eight years, everyone was expecting the 35-year-old to announce his retirement from professional football.
Well, after a brief stint with Greek club, Olympiacos, the Ivorian football legend has officially hung up his boots.
Although Touré can still pull off another five years of professional football if he wanted, we don’t expect a player of his calibre to lower the bar. According to Manchester Evening News, his agent said Touré decided to take the big step now because he wanted to end his career as a champion.
Fans will recall that he was instrumental in Man City winning the Premier League title before he left them a year ago. To thank him for his contributions, the club renamed their academy field after him.
With three Premier League, two La Liga, two League Cup, one Champions League, one FA Cup and one Copa del Rey titles to his name, Touré will certainly not be forgotten following this retirement. We wish him well as he make plans to start a coaching career in Russia!
