The 2019 World Table Tennis Championships will be held from April 21. Leading up to the competition, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has started a promotional campaign called ‘Inside My Mind’, featuring eight table tennis stars – including Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna.

The campaign takes fans inside the split-second decision-making of the stars, revealing their thoughts and emotions. Aruna’s part of the campaign premiered yesterday, and as much as it paints a picture of his playing style, it also shows how confident the gifted sportsman is.

If you’re curious to know how the Nigerian made Olympic history by becoming the first African table tennis player to reach the quarter-finals at Rio 2016 and how he has stayed on top since then, you only have to watch the video to see.

Aruna calmly owns his heritage, speaking in Yoruba as he dishes out his signatory power strokes and terrific topspin. He talks about how preparation is “the key to full force”, and how that gives him the mental edge in the heat of a game.
