About three months ago, Mikel Obi completed a move to Middlesbrough FC, bringing his two-year stay in China to an end. As expected, he ran the show in the club to the point that fans composed a song for him.

Now, the 2018-19 season of the English Football League Championship is over, and the former Chelsea player just revealed that he might leave Middlesbrough for another club.

Middlesbrough was relegated to the EFL Championship in 2016, and with Obi coming onboard, fans were hoping that he would help return them to the Premier League. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and, given his short term deal with the club, it’s understandable that he’s looking at other options.

Speaking on BBC Tees Sport, he said:

“I have a few options here and there, there’s a lot of options, you always have to pick the right one and the way you play and what you want to achieve.

I still want to win trophies, I’ll go somewhere where the players, the team, the fans, the staff, want to win.”

Now we know it’s about winning trophies, and we can’t really blame him.
