As it appears now, there’s no Middlesbrough without Mikel Obi – not after his impressive performance that had fans singing a song about him. Fresh from that sensational celebration, Obi has just been named in the English Football League (EFL) Championship ‘Team of the Week’.
The recognition follows Obi’s fourth appearance for Middlesbrough in which he was in top form, helping the club strike 54 points by beating Blackburn 1-0. To show that he occupies a special place in the hearts of fans, the EFL even used his photo to announce the list.
According to the announcement:
“Mikel has quickly become a fan favourite at Boro, and it’s easy to see why on the latest evidence.
The traveling fans sang his name throughout Sunday’s win at Blackburn Rovers, as the midfielder showed his class.”
While we expect the Chelsea legend to keep the same energy when Middlesbrough plays their next game on Saturday, we’re hoping he joins the Super Eagles when they land in Egypt for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
