About three weeks ago, prior to earning the interim UFC middleweight belt, Israel Adesanya promised to bring his first UFC title belt down to Africa. Well. it looks like that time is finally here, as the champion has revealed that he will be coming down to Lagos in May.

Since his win against American fighter, Kevin Gastelum, a worthy victory that landed him first-ever UFC belt, Adesanya has been earning a lot of well-deserved buzz, and that scored him an interview on the popular American radio show, The Breakfast Club.

During the interview, the 28-year-old announced his plans to visit Nigeria next month — his first trip back in half a decade. While Adesanya grew up in New Zealand, he was originally born in Lagos, and he plans to make this homecoming a memorable one.

About the feeling he is going for, Adesanya explained:

“There is a scene in Ali, the movie, when Will Smith plays [Muhammad] Ali, running through the hood and they are playing Salif Keita’s ‘Tomorrow’. That’s what I’m feeling. I want to go there and feel that.”
