It may have been over half a decade since Osaze Odemwingie made his last appearance on the Super Eagles team, but he very well continued his club career. Now, that too has come to an end, as the striker just announced his retirement from football.

Odemwingie made the announcement at the UEFA #EqualGame Conference at Wembley. The 37-year-old last played for Indonesian club, Madura FC in 2017. Before then, he plied his trade in England, where he got signed by West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Stoke City.

His international career with the Nigeria team started in 2002. He scored his first goal for Nigeria two years later and, in his 12-year stay on the team, he scored 10 more – including his last international goal in 2014, which gave the Super Eagles their first win at the World Cup since the 1998 edition.

Now that he has hung up his boots, Odemwingie has plans to go into coaching. In his own words:

“The next chapter is slowly building up to a coaching career, and hopefully I will be coaching in the Premier League one day.”

We wish him luck.
