Two years ago, Kelechi Iheanacho became the most expensive Nigerian player. While his transfer price stood at £23.3 million (N11 billion) at the time, Henry Onyekuru could soon take that title from him, given that his club, Everton has set his transfer price at €40 million (N16 billion).
Since Onyekuru joined Everton in 2017 he has played on loan in two clubs – Anderlecht and Galatasaray – due to issues with getting a work permit. According to a report on Fanatik, Bayern Munich is interested in bringing him on.
In fact, the club has had a meeting with Everton, and it was there that the mind-boggling price was set for the 21-year-old. You will recall that Everton signed Onyekuru for just €7 million (N3 billion), so that price seems to be a little on the high side.
We’re thinking that it’s either they set that price to scare away interested clubs and buy more time as they try for the third time to secure Onyekuru’s work permit, or they want to make big bank in case the work permit fails to come through again.
Whichever it is, the Nigerian forward is definitely in a good position.
