After making history by scoring the most away goals for Liverpool in the Champions League, Sadio Mané continued his hot streak by scoring against Fulham last Sunday – and, by so doing, became the Senegalese player with the most goals in a single Premier League campaign!
The record was formerly held by Demba Ba, who scored 16 goals for Newcastle in the 2011-12 season. Mané’s lone goal on Sunday means that he now has 17 goals so far this season, and, considering the form he’s been on, we don’t see him stopping any time soon.
Earlier on, we were so caught up in the Mohamed Salah/Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang fever that we never considered that Mané could climb so high on the top scorers’ table. Well, he now occupies the number two spot, tied with Salah and Aubameyang.
Before now, the Senegalese star had always been a sort of sidekick to Salah, and we’re glad he has finally stepped out of the Egyptian’s shadow. All he needs now is one more goal to catch up with Sergio Agüero as the highest scorer in the Premier League.
We hope that happens when Liverpool clashes with Tottenham on March 31.
