A few days ago, there were reports that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang planned to celebrate scoring in Arsenal’s second-leg match against Rennes with a superhero mask. Well, the match happened yesterday, and after he scored his second goal, he donned a Black Panther mask.
Now, this isn’t the first time the striker has celebrated a goal this way (as he’s been known to wear Batman and Spiderman masks), but his choice this time is really special. According to BT Sport, he said he chose Black Panther because it represents him.
Explaining the choice after the match, he said:
“You know, I needed the mask which represents me, so it’s a black panther.
In Africa, in Gabon, we call the national team the Panthers of Gabon, so it represents me. That’s it.”
Although the celebration got him a yellow card, we don’t expect Aubameyang to stop sampling superhero masks during a football game. After all, it drives fans nuts and, if we’re being honest, we love it when someone pays tribute to their roots.
