Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, has died more than two weeks after he tested positive for coronavirus COVID-19.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, announced Mr Kyari’s death on Twitter at 12:44 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, passes on. May God rest his soul. Amen. Funeral arrangements to be announced soon.

Garba Shehu, the special assistant on media and publicity to President Buhari, said Kyari died of Coronavirus con Friday.
The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.

Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Buhari, also confirmed the passing of the former Chief of Staff.

KanyiDaily recalls that on March 24, 2020, Abba Kyari tested positive for coronavirus after he visited Germany in early March.
The presidency did not deny or confirm the rumours at the time following speculations about his whereabouts. It was only after his death that Shehu confirmed that the former chief of staff had died of coronavirus on Friday.
