The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, in charge of Enugu State, Mr. Emeka Ononamadu has declared that no amount of intimidation will cajole him out of office.

This came amidst calls for the postponement of Saturday’s election by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State.

Addressing journalists on Thursday, Ononamadu said “no amount of allegation, intimidation or blackmail will make INEC Enugu to loose sight in conducting the election on Saturday. Our election is not negotiable, it’s going ahead and we are ready to conduct free, fair and credible election.

“We will not sit down and watch any individual right to be trample on. We must protect right of our people, protect our democracy and protect our country so credible election must take place in Enugu.”

“We must all know that power belong to the people so the people determine who will govern them so we are behind people of Enugu,” he said.

On the update for the preparedness of INEC, Dr Ononamadu disclosed that the commission has moved the election materials to INEC area offices in all the 17 local government area of the state, adding that the commission would start moving the materials to RAC by 10am on Friday 8.

Ononamadu, who disclosed that refresher training of supervisory presiding officers is ongoing, stated that Adhoc staff refresher training and head count would commence tomorrow by 6am.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of Registered Political Parties have also knocked the APC for asking for the postponement of the Saturday polls in Enugu.

Addressing newsmen, the publicity secretary of the group, Afam Ani, charged the APC to go and put their house in order, stressing that the removal of their candidate’s name in INEC list stemmed from their internal crisis.

“APC should not disturbe the prevailing peace in Enugu state with their crisis infested party.

“They should go and campaign for votes and if they are good enough the people of Enugu State will vote for them.

“INEC must conduct election in Enugu state on Saturday as planned,” he said.
