Ferdinand, a cousin to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, stated this following Osayi-Samuel’s contract extension at QPR.

On Wednesday QPR announced that have exercised the option to extend the contract of Osayi-Samuel, at the club until the summer of 2021.

The club also annouced that the contract of midfielder Ryan Manning has been extended.

And commenting on Osayi-Samuel’s contract extension, Ferdinand, a former Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Newcastle star, who is QPR’s Director of Football, told www.qpr.co.uk : “Exercising the option to extend the deals of Ryan and Bright is recognition of how well they have done for us over the past three years,” the 53-year-old France 1998 World Cup star said.

“They have both worked incredibly hard to become important members of Mark Warburton’s squad, and as such they are valuable assets to QPR.

“When you are signing young players the contracts need to be long enough to protect the club while not too long that they can potentially take away their incentive to progress.

“The extra one-year option which we have triggered gives us that ability to do both.

“We will be continuing discussions with Ryan and Bright as we look to extend their deals further.”

Osayi-Samuel signed a three-year contract when he joined the QPR from Blackpool in the same year.

The 22-year-old has made 80 appearances for QPR to date, scoring ten goals.

Osayi-Samuel was born in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria, then moved with his family to Spain before emigrating to England when he was ten years old, settling in Woolwich, London.

He qualifies to play for Nigeria as he has never made any appearance at international level for any country.
