Brendan Rodgers believes that Kelechi Iheanacho’s match-winning performance in Leicester City’s 2-1 home win against Everton on Sunday is bound to give the forward huge confidence to fight on for playing time in the team, reports Completesports.com.
Iheanacho has struggled for regular playing time in the Rodgers squad this season and scored the winning goal in his first appearance of the campaign against Everton.
“It’s the hardest part for the manager [playing all players regularly] . I saw this morning how they trained, with intensity, aggression and with a real focus,” Rodgers told a news conference on Monday.
“When you’re not getting a chance, you have to work hard in training. They are working tirelessly.”
Rodgers also shed light on how he has managed to get the best out of the Nigeria international despite his bit part role this term and the importance of his resurgence form against Everton.
“It is pretty easy really. He [Iheanacho] understands the role that he is in. He knows he has to work hard,” Rodgers said.
“It will give him a huge boost of confidence. Everybody talks about his Man City chance, his growth since that. You can only do that when you’re working so hard.
“His finish was unbelievable. Everybody talks about VAR. But his goal was fantastic. His play was first class.”
Leicester City will host Watford at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday.
