Prior to his shocking passing back in 2017, DJ Olu had begun working towards releasing his debut album. Well, Legends Never Die has now been released in celebration of his second post-humous birthday, and it features D-O, BOJ, Moelogo, Mayorkun and more.
While the opening track, the D-O-assisted “Forever”, starts things off on an expectedly sombre note, the rest of project picks up the pace, with all the various enlisted acts singing about turning up and living their best lives — the same way DJ Olu would if he was still with us.
Although most will remember him as Davido‘s official DJ, Olu was widely revered in the industry for his penchant for helping new artist break out. He also gave young DJs a platform to showcase their talents, using his connections with numerous residencies all over the world.
So, even though we’ll never get to hear him on the decks again, he’s been immortalised with his project — all the songs, except “Billie Gang” and “Forever”, were in the works before his passing. He will not only remain in our hearts, but he will now be in our playlists forever.
