Bike Hailing Services in Nigeria

The bike-hailing business has gained a lot of traction in Nigeria this year, especially in Lagos, people of Lagos and traffic are five and six , but since bike hailing services came to Nigeria, people who are always in a hurry or hate to sit in traffic, make use of this services.

In the last few months, the number of bikers has increased sporadically, suggesting the bike-hailing market is attracting a lot of interest.

MaxOkada, Nigeria’s first on-demand motorcycle startup was started by Metro Africa Express, the urban logistics firm that also runs MaxNG. MaxNG was launched in 2015 by two MIT Alumni,

Adebayo Bamiduro and Chinedu Azodoh while MaxOkada made its debut on July 2017.
It was initially called MaxGo as in “go sharp”. MaxOkada says its services “save commuters 6 hours daily and 180 hours a month usually spent in traffic by providing access to safe, reliable and affordable moto-taxi transport just from the click of a button on their mobile devices.”

2. Gokada
Gokada was started in 2018 by Fahim Saleh, a Bangladeshi entrepreneur who previously started and exited Pathao, a motorcycle, bicycle, and car transportation company. This means Saleh has the standard experience to help him successfully run Gokada in Lagos.

The previous experience seems to be working as Gokada appears to be dominating the bike service business.

This is perhaps due to being innovative and using technology to improve its services. Their strategy appears to be working, and this has enabled them to raise $5.3 million funding round led by Rise Capital.

3. SafeBoda
SafeBoda brought its Ugandan experience to Nigeria. After conquering East Africa, are they capable of defeating the on-demand motorcycle market in Nigeria?

To show that investors are very sure about the ambitions and plans of SafeBoda, they raised secret Series B round co-led by Go Ventures an investment unit of GoJek, a transportation network and logistics Startup Company based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
This means it has years of experience in the bag and with the backing of its investors. It was founded in Uganda in 2014 by Ricky Thomson.

4. ORide

This is owned by Opera Mini. Opera Software AS, popularly known for its mobile browser, founded ORide. Opera Software AS is now diversified as its target is to become a full-fledged digital service business.

It recently launched OPay, which is a seamless mobile money service, and later it unveiled ORide. Although it is a relatively new player in the motorcycle-hailing game, it sure has a capability to make ‘anything possible.’
