A few days ago, it was revealed that Beyoncé executive produced and curated an album titled The Lion King: The Gift, which will feature brand new songs inspired by the upcoming live-action remake of the iconic film.
Well, in usual Beyoncé fashion, the Queen has now broken the internet with the reveal of the project’s tracklist, which shows an impressive stack of featured guests, including Burna Boy, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Mr Eazi, Tekno and many others.
When the album was first announced, Beyoncé revealed that all the music on the project has been worked on by some of the most interesting and talented African artists and producers, in order to maintain authenticity in the storytelling.
While the project is mostly stacked with Nigerian stars, it also features a bunch of other African acts (like Ghana’s Shatta Wale and South Africa’s Moonchild Sanelly), as well as some acclaimed American acts (like Childish Gambino, JAY-Z and Kendrick Lamar).
As you can imagine, this is a very significant moment for afropop. Beyoncé is one of the most revered and celebrated musicians the world has ever seen, and the fact that she selected a handful of our most impressive artists for this project is a bigger deal than we can even explain.
The film and the album are set to drop on July 19.
