Nigeria‘s dream of bringing home the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) trophy came to an end last night. Their match against Algeria was the 14th semi-final for the Super Eagles, which means Nigeria has now played in more semi-finals than any other country in the history of the tournament.

This means that Nigeria has had more chances of lifting the trophy than any other country. However, it’s clear that the Super Eagles haven’t made much of the chances, as they have won only seven semi-final matches — three of which resulted in the titles they have till date.
With the Nigeria vs. Tunisia game coming up on Wednesday, it’s good to know that the team has never lost a third-place playoff. While this also makes Nigeria the country with the most wins in third-place playoffs, we’re rooting for them to extend the record by beating Tunisia.
