The police on Wednesday arraigned a 21-year-old driver, Innocent Rufus, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly kidnapping a woman, Barovbe, and demanding a N1million ransom, NAN reports.
Rufus, who was charged with conspiracy, kidnapping and threat to life, however pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 21 at about 9 p.m. at Kofoworola St. Okupe Estate Maryland, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant conspired to kidnap a housewife, Mrs Margaret Barovbe and demand N1million from her family.
Eruada also alleged that Rufus threatened to kill Barovbe’s husband if he failed to pay the ransom.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 411, 271 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Magistrate Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Dan-Oni adjourned the trial until July 11 for further hearing, NAN reports.
