Nigerian-born Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece recorded an impressive win against Slovenia on Saturday, July 6 in a convincing 28-margin gap, 96-68, to secure a place in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments final, Completesports.com reports.
The much anticipated knockout game which generated excitement over the Antetokounmpo versus Luca Doncic factor, saw the former finish the game with 13 points and 4 rebounds while the latter had 21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 10 turnovers.
In the post-game conference, Luca Doncic, a Dallas Mavericks star, admitted that Greece overpowered his team, praising his Slovenia teammates for their dedication to get to the semi-finals.
“Congratulations to Greece. They played better than us.They have an amazing team,” Doncic remarked.
“Obviously, they have Giannis, but other pieces are important for them, too. And they are very well coached, so congratulations to them. They outplayed us today.”
Doncic also emphasized the impact of other players in Greece, giving some of them mentions.
“They organize the team very well. They are a very experienced team; they all know how to play basketball. I think they are a great team, and I wish them very good luck,” he concluded.
Greece will square off against the winner of the Dominican Republic versus Croatia in the final, for a ticket to Paris 2023 Olympics.
