In Edo State, Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, a prominent contender, has decided to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.
He has swiftly thrown his support behind Dennis Idahosa, the youthful representative of Ovia constituency in the House of Representatives, whom he hailed as “the party’s choice.”
Umakhihe, a retired federal Permanent Secretary hailing from Edo North Senatorial District, formally withdrew from the race on Saturday morning.
Expressing gratitude to his supporters, Umakhihe stated, “Let us throw our support behind Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who is the party’s preferred candidate. There are brighter days ahead.”
With the exits of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and Chief Lucky Imasuen, nine out of the 12 initially cleared aspirants remain in contention.
The ongoing governorship direct primary election across Edo State will conclude with collation scheduled for Benin later today.
