Oghenekaro Etebo has barely spent one year in Stoke City, and he’s already making waves in the English Football League Championship. Following his rather impressive outing this season, the Super Eagles player won the club’s ‘Player of the Year’ award.
Since his signing in June last year, the 23-year-old has shown why he’s regarded as one of the most energetic midfielders in the league, scoring two goals in 37 appearances so far and playing a key role in the squad. No wonder the fans voted him as the player of the year.
Given that Stoke City finished at the number 16 spot this season, they’ll have to go through another season in the Championship. On the bright side, this could be a good chance for Etebo to help the club make it into the Premier League.
If he does so, he’ll be able to prove to everyone that turning down initial offers from Premier League clubs wasn’t a mistake. Before then, we will be looking forward to what he brings to the table when the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in June.
