About two decades ago, Sola Sobowale and Richard Mofe Damijo starred in Tade Ogidan‘s iconic film, Diamond Ring. That’s why we got excited when we heard that all three veterans were reuniting for a new film, Gold Statue, which now has an exciting trailer and a release date.
Ogidan’s first film in almost a decade, Gold Statue is a comedy-drama that follows the adventures of two young men, Wale (Gabriel Afolayan) and Chike (Kunle Remi), who are in search of a gold statue believed to have been a deity inherited by their generation.
Much to the despair of Wale’s parents (RMD & Sola Sobowale), he ends up committing a crime, so that he’s put in the prison where the statue is buried. In prison, he embarks on a mission to dig it up while he serves his time, and uses food sent to him from home to bribe those around him.
Starring alongside RMD, Sola Sobowale, Afolayan and Remi are Femi Durojaiye, Tina Mba, Norbert Young, Ali Baba, Segun Arinze and many others. The film will be available nationwide in cinemas from May 17, and we’re super excited!
