Nigeria has been dominating the 2019 Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) since the tournament kicked off in Tanzania. Yesterday, the team beat Angola 1-0 to make it into the semi-finals, also becoming the first African country to qualify for the 2019 FIFA Under-17 World Cup.

The Golden Eaglets are among the most successful teams in the history of the Under-17 AFCON, and we’ve been rooting for them right from the start. The World Cup, which takes place in Brazil, will be their 12th appearance in the global competition so far.

Nigeria remains the most-feared team at the Under-17 World Cup, and the stats make it clear why. The Golden Eaglets have won five editions of the tournament so far – the highest for any country – and they hold the record for most finishes in the top two and the top three.

So, as the players jet out to Brazil soon, we expect them to improve on the country’s stellar record and possibly bring home the trophy again. But, before then, we’re hoping to see them emerge this year’s African champions in Tanzania.
