Nicole Addimando, 30, faces 25 years to life in prison after she was found guilty of shooting her partner Christopher Grover at their apartment in Poughkeepsie, New York, in September 2017.

However, she claims gymnastics coach Grover raped and tortured her for years while the prosecution lawyers insisted he was shot while he slept on the couch.

On the night of the killing, Addimando flagged down a police car and told officers there had been an “incident” at her home, reports the Mail Online.

Cops then found Grover dead with a gunshot wound to the head.

Within the 24 hours before the shooting, Child Protective Services (CPS) had visited the apartment after an anonymous complaint expressed concern for the couple’s two children.

‘YEARS OF ABUSE’

The unnamed tipster reportedly raised the alarm with the CPS after spotting bruises on Addimando.

Prosecutors in New York were tasked with disproving the self-defence claim after the mum-of-two said she had been sexually abused by Grover for years.

Addimando’s defence lawyer told the court that her partner has raped her, choked her with a bathrobe belt and used a hot spoon to burn and torture her.

They said she had a justifiable and reasonable belief that Grover was going to kill her.

But during her closing statement, special prosecutor Chana Krauss said: “That wasn’t self-defence. Chris Grover was sleeping on the couch. This was intentional murder.”

The jury listened to testimony of nearly 20 witnesses, acting on behalf of both the prosecution and the defence, who painted contrasting pictures of the allegedly abused mother.

In his closing statement, her defence attorney John Ingrassia said Addimando described in “excruciating, painful detail what can only be described as evil, sadistic torture” during her three days of testimony.

He said that Grover knew his “deep dark secret was about to be unveiled” when he found out about the CPS probe.

But the prosecution painted Addimando as a “master manipulator” who feared of losing her children because of the Child Protective Services investigation.

The special prosecutor reminded the court that Grover “doesn’t have the opportunity to defend himself” and that his partner had the opportunity to leave him in the years leading up to the murder.

Following the guilty verdict, Addimando will be sentenced in June.
