It’s been one month since Israel Adesanya won his last fight in the UFC, making it unequivocally clear that he’s out to kick ass in mixed martial arts. With just two days to go until his next fight, he has promised to bring his first UFC title belt down to Africa.
The upcoming fight will be against Kelvin Gastelum from the US, and the interim middleweight belt is at stake. If the Nigerian-born fighter wins the fight, he’ll be sure to lift his first-ever UFC belt and even get a shot at a unification fight, which could earn him another belt.
In his usual manner, the 29-year-old is confident he’ll win the belt and, according to Stuff, the main reason why he’ll be making plans to bring it to Africa is to inspire the youth here. He also wants to get the first UFC champion out of Africa, Kamaru Usman, involved.
He’s quoted as saying:
“Imagine that, two young Nigerian boys who uprooted from Africa to look for a better way of life and then to go back to show the success we’ve had. I think that would be massive and inspire a lot of people.
Going through adversity in another land and then going back to show the fruits of our labour… I think it would be powerful.”
We are rooting for him.
