On Saturday, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi asked local hunters and vigilantes to use all of their powers against robbers.
Fayemi, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, made the call while speaking to local hunters and vigilantes in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.
Governors, he added, must confront the concerns of insecurity within their jurisdiction.
“Our Governor (Bagudu) has put up a good fight,” Fayemi says. That is an example of his dedication to his people’s well-being. We’re confident that we’ll be able to overcome these obstacles. There are lessons to be learned here for our own states, where we have both federal government institutions and state-run schools.
“Hunters and state residents should utilize all of their power to put an end to bandit attacks.
‘’We also need to protect our children and our people. Because our first responsibility as governors is to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens. And, in sha Allahu, God Almighty will be with us to help us achieve our goal of defending our people.”
On Thursday in the state, armed men suspected of being bandits abducted students and teachers from the Federal Government College in Birnin-Yauri.
During a gunfight between soldiers and the abductors, one of the students abducted from the school was killed.
Five of the abducted children and two teachers have been rescued, according to the Nigerian Army.
