After helping his country qualify for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Sunday, Congolese player, Cédric Bakambu has now made the 28th FIFA 19 ‘Team of the Week’, and he’s the only African player in the starting 11.
Since last year, Bakambu has scored 19 goals in 23 appearances for his club, Beijing Guoan. Although his performances have helped his club reach the number two position on the Chinese Super League table, his inclusion on the TOTW is as a result of his outing at the qualifiers.
The 27-year-old scored the only goal that handed DR Congo their ticket to Egypt, and as expected, his overall rating in FIFA 19 has improved from 82 to 84. He made the starting lineup alongside world-class stars like Paul Pogba, Eden Hazard and Marko Dmitrović.
Other Africans who made the TOTW are only in the reserve, and they are Benin‘s Steve Mounié and Senegal’s M’Baye Niang.
