Mavin Records’ label head, Don Jazzy is one of afropop’s most essential players, as he’s pushed out a lot of the genre’s best artists — from Tiwa Savage to Reekado Banks. Now, with his latest signee, Rema, he might have just discovered the genre’s next big star.
Immediately hitting the ground running, the young singer has already released a self-titled, 4-track EP, along with a stunning music video, which helps introduce his sound and his distinct aesthetic to the new audience this deal affords him.
His solid EP consists of four very different sounds, which all fall under the umbrella of afropop, making his versatility abundantly clear. That, in addition to a moderately viral clip of him freestyling, shows why the Mavin boss signed him.

Announcing this on Instagram, Don Jazzy said:
“Today another Mavin is Activated. We’re excited to present the newest MAVIN. Rema is a super talented young artist I have no doubt is going to be the future of [afropop]”
For someone so young, his self-assuredness in his sound makes us confident that he could actually be the next best thing in the music scene. We know we’ll be hearing more from him really soon, and if you can’t already tell, we’re super excited.
