The federal government said it has disbursed more than $200 billion out of the $322 billion recovered Abacha loot. The government also received commendation on its commitment to the Open Government Partnership which started three years ago.

It was indicated that Nigeria was part of the London Anti- Corruption summit in 2016, where it signed to the Open Government Partnership and committed to the Global Forum on Asset Recovery a year later.

A civil society group with focus on anti-corruption, ANEEJ, was said to be launching the outcome of its findings on the country’s level of compliance with the commitment made.

ANEEJ noted that having traversed 19 states of the country, Nigeria has largely implemented its commitment

Government corroborates the group’s findings and says it has so far impacted positively on the lives of the poor with the recovered Abacha loot.

Going forward, the report recommends that all steps be taken by the government to ensure that the disposition of confiscated proceeds of crime does not benefit persons involved in the commission of the offence.

It also advocated the inclusion of non-government actors such as the civil society, non-governmental organisations, community based groups and the private sector.
