If you’ve been paying any attention, you’ll know that Burna Boy is having his moment right now. His career has seen a well-deserved boom in the past year, following the release of his critically acclaimed mixtape, Outside.
Now, he’s crossed over into the international market, landing shocking features, booking huge festivals and selling out tours worldwide.
Since the success of Outside, he’s followed up with a string of fantastic singles. While his latest release, the fantastic “Dangote”, is still picking up steam, there’s already talk of his upcoming song, “34“, which was inspired by Nigerian NBA player, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
In an interview with The Score, Burna Boy spoke about his meteoric rise and the shock of being booked for massive shows like Coachella. He says that he remembers a time when he used to watch things like that on YouTube, and how now it has become his reality.
Burna Boy said:
“Only a very select few make it playing basketball and him doing what he does and being directly Nigerian- not even like a distant descendent, that is definitely something to be proud of.
When he steps on the court, he’s representing a lot more than he even knows he’s representing and I definitely see myself when I look at him.
Anyone from Africa who is on the world stage is a big inspiration to all Africans”
No official release date has been announced for “34”, but we are sure it will be amazing.
