Teni hasn’t been around for very long, but she’s managed to dole out some incredible singles, cementing herself as one of Nigeria‘s most exciting afropop stars. Now, she’s shown off even more of her range with her first single of 2019, the dancehall-influenced bop, “Party Next Door”.
Produced by JaySynths – the beatsmith behind her 2018 hit, “Case” – “Party Next Door” finds Teni lamenting about her lonely state. To alleviate her loneliness, Teni orchestrates a party next door, where plans to rave until the sun comes up.
On the vibrant track, Teni’s singing effortlessly dips into different genres. She starts off by adopting Jamaican patois in her lyrics before soaring into British pop during the chorus, returning to her afropop origins only for the song’s second verse.
“Party Next Door” is a very interesting sonic experiment for Teni, and it succeeds in showing just how flexible she is. The song is a party-starter and incorporates many different sounds for different tastes, so it could very easily become Teni’s next big hit.
